Our Mission
At Raven’s Journey, we believe the sea can be a classroom, a challenge, and a source of growth. Our mission is to provide Indigenous and other underserved youth with hands-on training at sea, preparing them for meaningful careers in the maritime industry.
We will achieve this by completing the Sailing School Vessel Raven and placing her into service as a training platform where young people can discover their strength, their heritage, and their future.
Aboard the Raven, students learn seamanship, stewardship, teamwork, and leadership while reconnecting with their culture and the natural world. Each voyage is more than a passage across the water, it is a step toward confidence, tradition, and leadership.

- Accommodations: 24 Students, 12 Crew
- Displacement: 165 metric tons
- Cruise Speed: 12 knots sail or drive
- Auxilliary Propulsion: Diesel-Electric Hybrid (600 kw)
- Solar: 20kW
- Hydro regen: 15kW @ 10 knots
- Powerbank: 165kWh nameplate. LFP
- U.S. Coast Guard Subchapter U certification
- Polar Class 5-rated hull
Status
We have acquired the bare hull and are currently in the process of preparing detailed refit plans for US Coast Guard approval.

Financial Support
Financial gifts help complete the SSV Raven and launch her training missions. Donations may be made securely online or by mail.
Raven’s Journey operates under Seraphim International, a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit; all contributions are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law.
Equipment Sponsorship
Raven’s Journey is outfitting the SSV Raven for service as a full-featured training vessel. We invite maritime suppliers and innovators to contribute equipment or in-kind support in the following areas:
- Navigation & Electronics — charts, radar, AIS, sensors, and communications systems.
- Safety & Survival — PFDs, liferafts, fire suppression, and emergency gear.
- Propulsion & Energy — electric drives, batteries, charging systems, and control electronics.
- Rigging & Sails — masts, winches, lines, and sailcloth.
- Hull & Coatings — marine paints, fairing compounds, and protective systems.
- Deck & Fittings — hardware, anchors, and mooring gear.
- Education & Crew Support — tools, instruments, and onboard training equipment.

Financial Support
Our donors are the foundation of our program. As vital to Raven’s Journey as the keelson (spine) is to the SSV Raven. In honor of that connection, each donor’s name will be engraved along the Raven’s keelson, forming the backbone of the vessel itself.
Every donor will also be recognized on plaques displayed both in our offices and aboard the Raven, as a lasting tribute to those who made her voyage possible. These plaques will be clear and visible reminders to students that there are people who believe in them.
